margolbe Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 We all know the upcoming RVG's through the Summer. Any news about them for Fall/Winter. I nominate: Pete Laroca - Basra Tina Brooks - True Blue Bobby Hutcherson - Happenings Grant Green - Matador Quote
Pete C Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 I nominate: Pete Laroca - Basra That would be timely. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 I nominate: Pete Laroca - Basra That would be timely. No kidding! The posters on this board have me absolutely beside myself wanting to hear this!! I can't sleep at night... And if I don't hear it soon, I may never sleep again! Quote
jazzscot Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 Another vote for "BASRA" please!!!!!!!! Quote
Claude Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 I agree with all 4 albums, although I have the Basra JRVG (very good sound) and the True Blue "spanish TOCJ". These are two essential Blue Note albums which should never go OOP. Quote
bertrand Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 Every home in the U.S. should have a copy of True Blue. Bertrand. Quote
sidewinder Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 How about Bobby Hutcherson 'Oblique'? That one has been AWOL for too long... Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 (edited) How about Bobby Hutcherson 'Oblique'? That one has been AWOL for too long... Possibly my favorite Hutcherson-lead date, ever (BN or otherwise). An RVG of this would be great!! Sessions like this deserve MUCH wider availability. Edited May 21, 2004 by Rooster_Ties Quote
DrJ Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 OBLIQUE is a fantastic choice (I'd sooner see it than HAPPENINGS but would take either!), as are BASRA, MATADOR, and TRUE BLUE. I'd also put in a strong vote for Andrew Hill JUDGEMENT! as well. And Stanley T's LOOK OUT! needs to be in print, too. Finally they need to start a BN 10" RVG series in the U.S...and my first vote to launch it would be HANK MOBLEY QUARTET. I have the JRVG of this and it sounds fantastic and is still one of my favorite Mobley dates. Maybe could round it out with his second date, but it's that first one that is essential. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 GIGOLO! GIGOLO! GIGILO! GIGOLO! GIGOLO! GIGILO! Quote
Jazzmoose Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 Um...I just need to step back in here and announce that a board member is already burning a copy of Basra for me, so please, no more offers to burn one! Damn, you people are awesome!!! Quote
ralphie_boy Posted May 21, 2004 Report Posted May 21, 2004 Every home in the U.S. should have a copy of True Blue. Bertrand. AMEN!! Quote
doubleM Posted May 24, 2004 Report Posted May 24, 2004 The only exposure I've had to Basra is "Lazy Afternoon" off of the Joe Henderson Blue Note box. If the rest of it is that good, I'll shit my pants. Quote
BruceH Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 It's about time they RVGed True Blue. Yes to that! I'm also curious about Basra. The opinions about it are mixed, but those who like it, like it a whole lot. Bring it on, Blue Note! And let's not forget Davis Cup, Introducing Johnny Griffin, and Flight To Jordan. (And Here To Stay as well.) Quote
chris olivarez Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 All of the above so my board brothers and sisters can sleep!!! Quote
sidewinder Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 I'm also curious about Basra. The opinions about it are mixed, but those who like it, like it a whole lot. Bring it on, Blue Note! Basra is wonderful - one of Joe Henderson's finest BN 'feature performances' and some very atmospheric tunes. Gotta like that great cover too ! Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted May 25, 2004 Report Posted May 25, 2004 "Here to Stay" and "Basra" are both essential in my book. I didn't particularly care for "Davis Cup." Quote
