Dmitry Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 (edited) I sometimes play a cd for days if I like it, but nothing [and I mean nothing] came close to the kid in my apartment building about 18 years ago blasting away Europe-The Final Countdown for at least a week, I think more. He made a 90-min. tape with just that p.o.s. tune on it, and looped that baby. And did he loop it! I even remember the stupid lyrics, like it was yesterday. We're leaving together But still it's farewell And maybe we'll come back To earth, who can tell I guess there is no one to blame We're leaving ground Will things ever be the same again It's the final countdown....... What, you never heard it? So, which one did you wear out? Edited May 19, 2004 by Dmitry Quote
wesbed Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 I remember a guy where I work, back in 1997, who played 'Wait' by White Lion, for three days straight. He had the song set to repeat, playing it through his computer speakers, lightly, for three long days. I didn't like the song initially. I like it even less so now. He shut it off only when I turned around and said, "You know, it's been three days." He knew of what I was speaking and put the CD away. Quote
Dan Gould Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 I would have to say John Mellencamp's "Uh-Huh". But it wasn't by choice. You see, in the summer of '84 I caught a ride with some guy in New Jersey to get back to Florida State for summer school. We drove straight through-24 hours-and I ended up with the last, overnight driving shift. This cassette was in the player, and for the life of me, I could not figure out how to eject it. The owner of the car is fast asleep, and I was stuck with this album playing, over and over and over again, for about 6 hours straight. I still can't listen to "Pink Houses". Of course, there are other reasons for that, but hearing it now definitely brings back memories of that night. Quote
Sundog Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 Alternated between Muddy Waters Hard Again and the Allman Brothers Brothers and Sisters for a week straight once while painting a house. Amazingly, I still like both albums very much. Quote
Chrome Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 Muddy Waters Hard Again That album kicks some serious ass ... I'll often pick one CD to listen to for the entire day at work ... with the phone calls/interruptions, I don't get bored with it, and I find that I can get a deeper appreciation of some of the music than I would with just a single listen. Jazzmoose Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 I once listened to a home recorded 8 Track (yes, Virginia, 8 Track recorders actually existed once....) of nothing but Airplane's White Rabbit for eight hours, but of course this record should be disallowed as it was most definitely drug assisted... WD45 Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 When I worked at a Scam Goody record store whilst between jobs for 6 months, I listened to Radiohead's Kid A every day, as my only other choices were a Shaggy album and Backstreet Boys, among other bits of drivel. Quote
WD45 Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 On a related note, I remeber reading a story years ago of a radio station in California that, for a period, played nothing but the 10 minute version of "I heard it through the Grapevine" by Creedence Clearwater Revival, over and over. Quote

Not unheard of. When I worked in radio in Tallahassee, one of the other stations flipped formats to country music and played Alan Jackson's "Gone Country" for a week before they officially launched the format. A better way to announce a format change might be what the station I last worked for did (after they fired me). It was a light Adult Contemporary station, lots of Streisand and Neil Diamond and Barry Manilow. For about a week before they flipped to a "Hot Hits" format, they'd slip obnoxious dance music and crap like that into the playlist, one at a time, maybe once every few hours, then with increasing frequency til they actually flipped. When the phones would light up, they'd say that the DJ made a mistake and they were terribly sorry ... I can just imagine the reactions of the blue hairs to those sonic assaults. Quote

Sundog Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 Muddy Waters Hard Again That album kicks some serious ass ... I get goosebumps just thinking about this album. This one "kicks" from the first note! BTW I believe Hard Again was just reissued this week along with a couple of other Muddy albums. On a related side note Johnny Winter's first album also got the reissue treatment this week. I believe it contains extra tracks. Johnny is one bad man! Quote

desertblues Posted May 19, 2004 Report Posted May 19, 2004 Back in the days of cassette tapes for the road, my spouse treated us to a 90 minute "compilation" that repeated Bob Marley's "Three Little Words" over and over with just a few other tunes thrown in here and there. After a while listening to this tape became part of the ritual every time we hit the highway...she really digs Bob Marley. Quote
BruceH Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 After the RVG of Mode For Joe came out, I used to play "Black" an average of half-a-dozen times a day for weeks for some reason. Funny thing is, I still like it. Quote

Back in '84, when the local "modern rock" station (any Bay Area residents remember The Quake?) was switching to something else, the new owners played a solid week of nothing but Eno, with the occasional tag line "All Eno, All the Time" thrown in... It was fantastic!! Quote
Jazzmoose Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 Wow...seems like I should be typing in all caps and misspelling words on this thread... Quote

LAL Posted May 20, 2004 Report Posted May 20, 2004 Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights", about 5 times a day for a couple of weeks and the album it is on, "Kick Inside" twice daily for the same period. A very unique singer/songwriter indeed. Quote
