JSngry Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 From this thread: Jim -- I'm not trying to disappear, far from it. But at my age (exactly 62 years and 39 minutes now) you get forgetful in spots, and when you forget something, the deal is, you don't remember it. Right? Unless I'm reading this wrong, today's your birthday. Right? If so, let me wish you a Happy Birthday, and the sincerest thanks for all the thought-provoking commentary and keen insight you've provided over the years. It's not hyperbole for me to say that, although I'd have been a musician without your writing, I'd not have been the same kind of musician, and definitely not the same kind of thinker. Happy Birthday, and much, MUCH thanks! Quote

As a former boss of mine liked to say: "Sounds like a plan to me." Yes, BTW, I was born 5/16/42. ghost of miles Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 Yet more reason for us to shower you with gratitude! Happy birthday to a sterling jazz writer whose liner notes & articles have afforded me much pleasure & inspiration... w/hopes that my own budding efforts may some day bask at least in the shadow of your work. Jazzmoose Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 So is forgetfullness worse at 62 than it is at 46? If so, I'm uh....wait a minute...shit, where was I going with this? Aw, never mind; happy birthday, Larry! Quote

Simon Weil Posted May 16, 2004 Report Posted May 16, 2004 Yeah, happy birthday Larry. It's really a treat to have you here. Simon Weil Quote
Larry Kart Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 It's a treat (also even a necessity) to be here, talking and listening. I remember how weird (even angry) I felt when the BNBB went under, only to discover (thanks to Chuck, I'm pretty sure) that Organissimo was up and running and that in any number of ways it was/is much better. One of the few times I can think of in recent years when something like that has happened, in any realm of human endeavor. Quote
montg Posted May 17, 2004 Report Posted May 17, 2004 Happy Birthday--and thanks for opening my ears to some music I might have otherwise missed. Looking forward to the book! Quote
