BillF Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 Bought that one in the 80s, John and it remains a favourite. Love the music from The Wild One, as well as the movie, of course! Quote
Clunky Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 Steve Lacy & Joe McPhee - The Rest (Roaratorio). First listen. Absolutely wonderful music. The sound is less than pristine; I wish that a Nessa-like approach to remastering had been taken. I was tempted but given the cost ( when postage from USA is added) I will pass Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 What a fun date! I play this on CD quite a bit. Well worth the listen. Quote
jazzbo Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 Amazing sounding vinyl, and beautiful gatefold jacket. Quote

The Magnificent Goldberg Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 What a fun date! I play this on CD quite a bit. Well worth the listen. MIne's on Roulette. Did Prestige have to hand it over to them at sometime? The album illustrated is Roulette SR59049. The original issue was Prestige PR7459. Recorded 10 Sep 1965; produced by Richard Carpenter (who I think was Stitt's manager). I've never seen this album on either label. As far as I knew, in this period, Sonny wasn't contracted to any label. Maybe Prestige didn't own the master but Carpenter? And he passed it to whomever he could get bucks from? MG Quote
sidewinder Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 (edited) Same rhythm section team with the Lightsey trio recorded that marathon session with Chet Baker around this time - again for Carpenter. Those sessions came out on Prestige so - probably correct assumption. Edited April 3, 2013 by sidewinder Quote

six string Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 Finishnig my personal Kirk-a-thon with Uk Mercury mono. UK HMV mono. That album w/Golson is on my short list of albums to own. It's the only RRK album I don't have on vinyl (or cd for that matter). Is that the same cover as the U.S. issued lp? I've never seen it so I have no idea. I like it though. The Haynes album I'm well acquainted with though I don't have it on vinyl either. Quote
