jazzbo Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 Starting to listen to a Christmas present received last night from my best friend. Continuing on with this one. Like all the Hendrix vinyl I've heard from Legacy (and I've heard it all but the Berkley) it sounds excellent. Quote

The Magnificent Goldberg Posted December 16, 2012 Report Posted December 16, 2012 Aaron Neville: Orchid in the Storm (Passport) With all due and proper respect to Jerry Butler, Aaron Neville's version of "For Your Precious Love" on this record is the best I've ever heard. I'll believe that - Aaron has a great voice and impassioned delivery, when he wants to. But have you heard Oscar Toney Jr's version of the song? It's one I've never bought, but still remember from the 60s. MG Quote

I'll have to give Mr. Toney a spin tomorrow - first one in a long time. Thanks for the reminder. Quote

Like all the Hendrix vinyl I've heard from Legacy (and I've heard it all but the Berkley) it sounds excellent. Good to know. I sold most of my MCA's(except purple box). Loved the packaging, but not sound. Have this one and a few other Legacy's in my cart on Amazon. I just sprang for a German pressed Beatles stereo vinyl box (which I think is great...better than my MOFI's). Need to get this one, Winterland and the Beatles mono box, too. I would be surprised if you're not happy with them. I only have originals of the albums released through the 'seventies otherwise, none of the MCA vinyl. Steering clear of Beatles vinyl, I've the new cd reissues and I"m not the biggest of Beatles fans. Quote

Clunky Posted December 17, 2012 Report Posted December 17, 2012 Allen Eager- Swinging with Allen Eager ( Marshmallow) Jpn, ltd edition of two airshots of Terry Gibbs Allstars and Eager/McGhee Quintet. Sound on side 1 is just fine but side 2 is pretty dull sound even if the music swings really hard. Don't pay an insane amount for this would be my advice Quote

jeffcrom Posted December 18, 2012 Report Posted December 18, 2012 Buddy Defrano - The Buddy DeFranco Wailers (Verve). A battered copy from the dollar bin. Benny Goodman - Chicago Jazz Classics (Brunswick 10"). Excellent late-20s jazz. And the one musical joke, "Shirt Tail Stomp," is pretty funny, in my opinion. James P. Johnson - Father of the Stride Piano (Columbia). I got this one around 1976, and it means a lot to me - beautiful stuff. Quote
