Clunky Posted November 25, 2012 Report Posted November 25, 2012 Don Elliott- A Musical Offering (HMV) mint UK pressing of this hardly revolutionary session arranged by Quincy Jones. Pleasant Sunday morning chamber jazz with a west coast vibe. Quite nice but not worth big money. Quote

jeffcrom Posted November 26, 2012 Report Posted November 26, 2012 Duke Ellington - All Star Road Band Volume 2 (Doctor Jazz)... which was reissued on CD (minus one track) as All Star Road Band, while the original All Star Road Band double LP was reissued as All Star Road Band Volume 2. Go figure. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted November 26, 2012 Report Posted November 26, 2012 Ben Webster - For the Guvnor (EMI Columbia) - good session although the piano sounds a little odd I like that one. Mine's the Dutch Imperial pressing. The notes are real nice. Quote
jeffcrom Posted November 26, 2012 Report Posted November 26, 2012 Defunkt - Razor's Edge/Stranglin' Me With Your Love (Revisited) (Hannibal). This 12" single represents Joseph Bowie's funk band at its absolute peak. Brother Lester B. is on hand to provide weird/tasty licks. The following full-length album, Thermonuclear Sweat, is nearly as good. But "Razor's Edge" is the peak. The groove is deep, the lyrics are hardcore, the twin guitars are just nasty, and the horn section sounds like Fela's. After spinning both sides, I'm going to play "Razor's Edge" again before bed. clifford_thornton Posted November 26, 2012 Report Posted November 26, 2012 Nope. The "Narada" was bestowed upon him by Swami Satchidananda. Glad you dig the LP - was honored to write the text for that one. Quote
