Kevin Bresnahan Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 The Beatles - Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (late 70's two box UK pressing) I have slowly converted most of my Beatles vinyl over to UK vinyl. Sadly, they're almost universally better than equivalent US pressings. As an added bonus, many of them have extra tracks. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 Bobby Hutcherson - San Francisco featuring Harold Land (UA Van Gelder pressing). First time I've heard this. Eh. Although Hutch and Harold play their asses off, it isn't doing much for me. The funk/trippy beats are pretty dated. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 Manny Albam - Solid State Soul Of The City (original Soild State heavy vinyl) I bought this because many years ago I picked up a copy of "Something New Something Blue" on Columbia which had some of Albam's work on it that I really liked. This isn't as good as that date. Quote
JSngry Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 Right now, Wow, where did you find that on LP?!?!?! Quote
sidewinder Posted November 10, 2012 Report Posted November 10, 2012 UK Island issue of Time lp. Still have my copy of that one too. Raised quite a stir when it came out on Island (I remember Richard Williams did a great Melody Maker article on it). Quote

jeffcrom Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 Pete Yellin - Dance of Allegra (Mainstream). Mr. Yellin's debut album featured a pretty impressive band: Eddie Henderson, Kenny Barron, Stanley Clarke, Billy Hart, and Dom Um Romao. Quote

JSngry Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 Wow, yeah, for real. And such a smile! I love this little bit of detail: She grew up in Brooklyn, NY, in a family full of musicians, sometimes on tour with her father, saxophonist Pete Yellin, and singing 3 part harmonies with her Bluegrass-pickin' uncles. Is it time for the Afro Klezmer to meet the Appalachian Klezmer? I think it just might be! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted November 11, 2012 Report Posted November 11, 2012 I imagine Allegra having that "Snurdy McGurdy" vibe at a young age. Quote
