Clunky Posted November 4, 2012 Report Posted November 4, 2012 (edited) Mulgrew Miller - The Countdown - Landmark- I should have known better than to get an LP which proudly states Digital on the cover. However in this case I'm glad I did part with £2 for this excellent session with Joe Henderson, Tony Williams and Ron Carter. Very nice latter day Joe, Miller is excellent and Tony's not too loud. six string Posted November 4, 2012 Report Posted November 4, 2012 Gil Melle - Tome VI (Verve stereo) That's a very interesting album. NP Stan The Man - Stanley Turrentine (Time Records) I knew about Tommy Turrentine's album on the label but I didn't know Stanley had one too. That is until Friday. All killer no filler. Quote

paul secor Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 (BN "Wally') What does this mean? As I understand it, it refers to some (all?) of the BN heavy vinyl reissues done in the 1990's that had the name "Wally" etched in the area of the end grooves. I could be completely wrong about this. I like to listen more than check out what pressings are what. Quote

JSngry Posted November 5, 2012 Report Posted November 5, 2012 Don't I know it...I'm paying $7.99 for LPs at the local Half Price that just a year or two ago would have been $4.99. At some point, a used CD from Amazon will be a better deal. Quote

Wonder if I'd told my girlfriend that, she would have let me keep it on deck? Now: Sonic Arts Union - Electric Sound - (Mainstream) Lucier's "Vespers" seems to be background-y enough for sensitive ears; as a Kansan, it just reminds me of choruses of spring peepers. Quote

From what I was told the first or maybe the first & second batches of Connoisseur LPs were *probably* cut from a digital master. However, they switched to all analog somewhere along the way. I was never able to get the breakdown. I like the sound from these Wally cut LPs. FWIW, Wally is etched in deadwax going back for years. Wally cuts are the best sounding Bob Seger LPs too.
