jazzbo Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 Found a nice clean grey label Columbia pressing, like the one that my Dad has had in his collection all my life. Sounds spectacular! Quote
JSngry Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 Keeny Barron, McCoy Tyner, Cecil McBee, nice populist jazz from around the last days of when such a thing needed no qualifications or apologies. Quote
jeffcrom Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 I started playing the records from my big score yesterday. They cleaned up very nicely - mostly to a solid VG+; some a little better. Started with: Bob Brookmeyer - The Modernity of Bob Brookmeyer (Clef) Now I'm playing a record I never expected to ever see: Anthony Ortega - A Man and His Horns (Herald) I'm a pretty happy boy right now. jazzbo Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 I have both those on cd, nice sessions. Right now Quote

jazzbo Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 Hard to believe I've had this lp forty years! Quote
Don Brown Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 Disc 7 from the Coleman Hawkins Mosaic box. Just listened to what's always been my very favorite Coleman Hawkins recording, The Man I Love, originally on Signature. I had this one on a 12 inch 78 pressing that I played until it turned gray. clifford_thornton Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 Joe Diorio & Steve Bagby - Straight Ahead to the Light - (Spitball) Forgot what a killer guitar-percussion "free rock" LP this was... Quote
jeffcrom Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 Stan Getz - West Coast Jazz (Norgran yellow label). This is the record from my recent haul that's in the worst shape, and it still sounds pretty good. A little surface noise, but it's not bad at all, and the basic sound is nice and warm. Quote
jeffcrom Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 Illinois Jacquet - Swing's the Thing (Verve deep groove). This is a delight; Roy Eldridge is in excellent form. Quote
