Arne Domnerus - Songs of Simon (Sonet). The great Swedish reed player plays Paul Simon, 1972. I saw this in a little record shop in Malmö, and almost didn't get it, because, well, it looked like it had the potential to be stunningly bad. But I'm glad I grabbed it. Some parts are better than others, and there's kind of a campy aspect to it, but Domnerus plays great, and it's a very entertaining album.

Paul Smoker Trio with Special Guest Anthony Braxton: QB (Alvas)

Recorded in my old home base of Iowa City (and Anthony's sole performance in the state, as far as I know) if I'm not mistaken! I'd like to have it one day if only for the curiosity. How is it?

I've been listening to things I haven't listened to in a while to decide whether to keep them or not. This is a keeper. Surprisingly - or not, depending on your point of view - I enjoyed bassist Ron Rohovit's and drummer Phil Haynes' playing as much as I did Paul Smoker's and Anthony Braxton's.

Zbigniew Namysłowski - Kuyaviak Goes Funky (Polish Jazz Vol. 46, 1975)- Miles (IASW/BB) is the obvious reference point but this isn't really all that derivative. Pretty good IMO.

I saw the Namyslowski quartet in Leeds in the mid-60s when their big influence was the Coltrane quartet, but once again there was an originality in the fusion of Polish folk influences.

Two mid-60's albums with Reggie Workman on bass, recorded at Van Gelder studios. Very different in some ways, but it's all meat off the same bone.

New York Art Quartet - Mohawk (Japanese Fontana)

Lee Morgan - Search for the New Land (BN New York stereo). My copy is not pristine, but it still sounds fabulous. Sonically, this is one of my favorite Blue Notes.
