Chuck Nessa Posted March 24, 2012 Report Posted March 24, 2012 Gerry Mulligan - Song Book, Vol.1 (World Pacific Records) That wonderful saxophone band! Hmmmm. I always felt Freddie Green was the odd man out on this date. It just didn't feel "settled" to me. Quote
AllenLowe Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 (edited) also, Alan Eager had lost a lot. Unless I'm thinking of a different recording. Edited March 25, 2012 by AllenLowe Quote

BillF Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 also, Alan Eager had lost a lot. Unless I'm thinking of a different recording. Agree with you about Allen Eager at this date (1957), but like Freddie Greene's contribution - makes the pianoless rhythm section meatier. Quote
Clunky Posted March 25, 2012 Report Posted March 25, 2012 decent transfers on this LP - Billy Banks & his Rhythm Makers (CBS)- hot jazz but vocals not helpful. Banks is ok but occasionally gets in the way. The high point of Eddie Condon's career? next up the June 1924 Gennett solos by Mr Jelly Lord on Ferd " Jelly Roll" Morton (Fountain FJ 104) - decent transfers by John RTD. Recent purchase and my first exposure to these tracks. Quote
