- David S. Ware/ William Parker/ Warren Smith: Onecept (AUM064 LP)

Fantastic Music, sounded particularly good on this LP who has, on the four side, two bonus tracks: Virtue (6'47) and Gnavah (9'06).

Funny (or reaveling?) that three decades after the birth of CD, it's nowadays LP who brings the extra music (known as Bonus) to the

completist.

Sam Musiker - Jewish Wedding Dances (Tikva) I added this to my growing stack of cheap klezmer LPs from the 50's and 60's today. Sam Musiker had played tenor and clarinet in Gene Krupa's band and in the band of his musical hero and father-in-law, Dave Tarras. I wish I could find a picture of the cover online; it's odd and cool.

Al Gallodoro - Gallodoro (Merri). A 1958 album of semi-classical and pop selections by the virtuoso saxophonist. It's impressive and corny (and in stone mint condition). I posted about this album a couple of years ago, and Chuck Nessa understood.

American Symphonic Band of the Air - Band Concert (Decca mono), conducted by the great band conductor William Revelli. It seems fitting that I found this album in a junk shop in Savannah while attending a music teachers' convention back when I was a band teacher. Can't find a picture of the album, but here's a single from it, apparently much loved by lounge music aficionados:

Today was a first, since I was 15. In the past 24 hours, I've listened to no jazz at all. I've listened to plenty of music - classical, semi-classical, and pop, but no jazz. My choice of music was influenced by the anticipation of attending a concert by the greatest wind band in the world, the United States Marine Band, tonight. The concert was amazing and kind of old-fashioned and corny at the same time.

In any case, I think that I'm going to need to hear some Coltrane and/or King Oliver tomorrow.

Jan Johansson Jazz på svenska Megafon - mono and stereo versions, some really lovely melodies. The excellent new ACT CD of JJ with the NDR band stimulated me to dig these out,

:tup Very interesting to compare that material with the Mike Taylor Trio of similar vintage. There were some definite common influences I think.

I'll need to check that out. Only have the Mike Taylor CD from the Impressed series. Johansson has a pretty diverse style base from highly melodic playing on the above to some quite funky playing on other sessions such as Den korta fristen. Then again he can be quite abstract. Not sure I've really got the measure of him.

I think it was Jeffcrom who played a Threadgill sextet a few days ago. That reminded me that I'd not played them for a while. Subject to Change was the first one to come to hand.
