sidewinder Posted April 21, 2005 Report Posted April 21, 2005 'Gerry Mulligan Meets the Sax Giants Vol 2'. (UK Verve). This was the very first jazz LP I ever bought in 1974 and I haven't played it in years. Amazingly, it is still in mint ! Great work by the late Stan Levey on the Mulligan/Getz tracks. Will follow up with more LPs from the Mosaic 'Complete Roulette Basie Live' set Quote

Clunky Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 Last night Earl Hines - Paris Session 1965- Duceret Thomsom- might be the best late Hine's I've heard Frank Foster- Frankly Speaking - Concord- these Concord vinyls sound fab. Nice tight swing session. John Handy - In the vernacular - Vogue 2Lp ( ex Roulette)- suprisinglt little talked about sessions. Very good. Quote
sidewinder Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 The Three Sounds 'Vibrations' (NY USA mono, Liberty cover). This one gets slagged off a lot in the reviews but I rather like it. Quote

patricia Posted April 22, 2005 Report Posted April 22, 2005 (edited) Greatest Hits - Dr Hook [i think that this group is still around.] They were very big in the '70s. Includes "On The Cover Of the Rollin' Stone". Ray Sawyer is the lead singer and wears an eyepatch and a nifty hat with a feather. A little aside. Check the record's label when you are shopping for old vinyl. This was in the cover for an earlier collection, "Pleasure and Pain". Poppa John Gordy's Ragtime Piano - Poppa John Gordy Down Yonder - Del Wood [more ragtime piano] Chameleon - Maynard Ferguson Edited April 23, 2005 by patricia Quote
