Leeway
Hardly ever see Charles Gayle mentioned on the Board. An impassioned artist.
Leeway
Andrew Hill: DANCE WITH DEATH. I'm not generally a big Joe Farrell fan, but he sounds great here. Ditto Charles Tolliver. Oh, and of course, Mr. Hill. This is a terrific album.
jeffcrom
Inspired by a post by Mr. Nessa: Joe Daley Trio - At Newport '63 (RCA Victor mono) Later: It's a pretty good (not great) record, but I had forgotten that Mr. Daley quotes "Nola" during Ornette Coleman's "Ramblin.'" That hurts. Edited October 21, 2011 by jeffcrom

king ubu
Willie "The Lion" Smith - The Many Faces of Jazz Vol. 30 (Vogue CMDINT 9736) Some nice music! Solos, duos with drummer Wallace Bishop and a few trio/quartet sides with Buck Clayton, Bishop plus Claude Luter (all of the band sides are here, except for the unissued version of "Darktown Strutter's Ball" - which is mis-printed as "Darktown Stutter's Ball" on the discography on the backcover, but spelt correctly in the tracklisting).
