brownie Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 Enjoying the vinyl double LP issue of the Moutin Reunion Quartet: http://www.moutin.com/NewCD.html The vinyl issue has not been widely advertised but it's available and comes out very nicely. Great to see the vinyl release that came out at the same time as the CD issue. Really nice quartet with Rick Margitza on sax. The Moutin brothers often play with Martial Solal. Bassist Francois Moutin was on Solal's BN album 'NY1'. Quote
sidewinder Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 (edited) Just listening to this interesting British third-stream session from the early 60s with Shake Keane and Coleridge Goode. A scarce one ! Edited April 16, 2005 by sidewinder Quote

1ngram Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 I picked up three jazz eps at a boot sale recently - just got round to playing them. First off is Sidney Bechet "Souvenirs of New Orleans" with Claude Luter and his Orchestra on Vogue. Not my cup of tea really. Quote
1ngram Posted April 16, 2005 Report Posted April 16, 2005 (edited) Next up a HMV /Verve ep of Anita O'Day. No named accomps but orchestra conducted by Marty Paich. Never heard her before but nice, esp with vocal version of Night in Tunisia. Bit overwhelmed by orchestra. Anyone know who ts is on this? Last up a very dull Andre Previn Giving his Regards to Broadway etc. Edited April 16, 2005 by 1ngram Quote
sidewinder Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 (edited) Sidewinder, those last two I've never seen or heard of. Wow. Clifford, the David Mack is almost forgotten, even over here. It raised some interest amongst the critics back in the 1960s (Max Harrison wrote an essay on 'David Mack's 'Serial Jazz' at that time in his fine book 'A Jazz Retrospect') but then was promptly forgotten. Good news re: the Ardley though. 'Dejeuner' looks as though it will be re-issued on the dreaded alternative format ( ) sometime over the next year. LP copies are pretty scarce. By the way, I think this one (along with an album by Phil Seamen) was the first and only UK domestic-artist ever put out on vinyl by Verve. 'Dejeuner' by the way is a fantastic album. It starts out with a cracking big band version of Michael Garrick's 'Dusk Fire' and then leads into (IMO) the finest version of Coltrane's 'Naima' other than the one recorded by the Master. Fantastic ! Edited April 17, 2005 by sidewinder Quote
sidewinder Posted April 17, 2005 Report Posted April 17, 2005 This very fine session by Gordon Beck, with 'Johnny' McLaughlin. Great jazz versions of 1960s pop hits. Quote
