jeffcrom
Whitey Mitchell Sextette (ABC Paramount mono) The best soloist here is Steve Lacy, barely out of his teens.
jeffcrom
Kid Thomas + The Hall Brothers Jazz Band (GHB mono). This 1964 album follows a familiar formula - half of Kid Thomas's regular band, plus four young disciples, from Minnesota, in this case. One of the "kids" is Butch Thompson, playing clarinet here, rather than piano. Edited September 5, 2011 by jeffcrom
Teasing the Korean
Jobim/Quincy Jones/Ray Brown - The Adventurers OST - Symbolic (stereo) Was there really a "Ray Brown Orchestra," or is this just Q using Ray Brown's name for contractual reasons? colinmce
The last track, "Virgin Jungle," with Sam Woodyard joining Oliver Johnson on drums, is a lot of fun. His best on Novus for sure. The version of "Cliches" (duet w/ thumb piano) is stunning.

BillF
First: One of my all time favorites! Shorty was never better than with that little band of the talents with Pepper and Hawes and Mulligan's great in the tentette format - Chet Baker's in there, too! Beautiful arrangements throughout.
