jeffcrom Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 Ray Noble - We Danced All Night (RCA Camden). Okay, this is an odd one, but I like it. It's a 1950's collection of 1935-36 recordings by the American society dance band of the British Mr. Noble. It's basically classy pop music of the time, with one foot in jazz - there are solos by Bud Freeman, Pee Wee Erwin, Johnny Mintz, Claude Thornhill, and Glenn Miller. This album appeals to both my jazz side and that part of me that occasionally enjoys "bachelor pad" pop. Quote
jeffcrom Posted February 22, 2011 Report Posted February 22, 2011 George Lewis - Oh, Didn't He Ramble! (Verve mono). A beautiful near-mint copy with a great David Stone Martin cover. Quote

jeffcrom Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 A near-mint gem from the dollar bin: Knocky Parker/Omer Simeon Storyville Creepers (GHB). A 1949 concert by Parker and Simeon, with Arthur Herbert on drums. Quote

six string Posted February 25, 2011 Report Posted February 25, 2011 I would love to own a copy of that Carl Perkins album. I probably wouldn't want to pay the current price but what a great album. Quote

I'm not sure never having seen an original, but most Dootones around are second pressings. They suddenly became available around the 70s/ early 80s. They look pretty authentic. I've actually got that Carl Perkins in a first and second pressing. The original has 'Dooto' on the label and is deep groove. The 2nd pressing (early 70s) has 'Dootone' I think and a slightly different colouration on label, no deep groove. My Curtis Counce 'Exploring The Future' is also a second pressing. B&W cover, whereas the original was a colour cover I believe, Edited February 26, 2011 by sidewinder Quote

The Dexter has on orange label. Quote

sidewinder Posted February 26, 2011 Report Posted February 26, 2011 Mine has Dooto on the label. The deep-groove on both sides and significantly heavier vinyl will confirm whether or not it is the original, Bill. John - you are right, the 'Exploring The Future' has a sort of purple tinge to it. Don't have the Dexter, alas. Quote
