jeffcrom Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Pee Wee Russell Plays Pee Wee (Stere-o-craft). The recent discussion about CD reissues of this made me want to hear my copy of the original, in stone mint condition. What a great album. Quote
jeffcrom Posted February 14, 2011 Report Posted February 14, 2011 Lee Konitz - Very Cool (Japanese Verve/Polydor). Chosen partly as a memorial for Don Ferrara, who plays beautifully here. And I love the Sal Mosca/Peter Ind/Shadow Wilson rhythm section. Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 Les Baxter - Master of the World OST - VJ (rainbow, mono) Les Baxter - Barbarian! - AIP (mono) Bet those are neat! He did some cool scores. "Master of the World" is Baxter in his more grandiose, melodic mode, sort of along the lines of his Capitol album "Space Escapade," but with more drama and spectacle. "Barbarian" is closer to the exotica albums but it doesn't quite sound like those. There is a march that shows up at the beginning and end that is kind of annoying (I'm not into military scores), but the rest of it has an impressionistic exotic sound. Quote

Clunky Posted February 15, 2011 Report Posted February 15, 2011 (edited) Since upgrading my turntable I've played almost nothing but vinyl- some amazing sonic revelations..Now I'm back to normal listening and enjoying vinyl like never before Van Morrison - Astral Weeks Annette Peacock- I'm the one this album just amazes me. Brilliant !!! Sonny Rollins - Volume 2 - BN NYC- perhaps slightly overlooked in Sonny's output , perhaps it is a shade behind the likes of VV, Newk's Time etc Edited February 15, 2011 by Clunky Quote

This one used to be really major in my youth - hear of it rarely now. Really stellar line-up - Horace Silver, Monk, J J, Art Blakey IIRC. Quote
