They did a great job with this one - both sound-wise and the superlative cover/photos. Some good notes by Michael Cuscuna on the back from the 'Rainbow Series' issue. jeffcrom Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 Something New, Something Blue (Columbia 6-eye stereo). Someone mentioned this one recently; that made me want to hear it again. For those not familiar with the album, four composers (Manny Albam, Teddy Charles, Bill Russo, and Teo Macero) were asked to write one new blues-based piece and arrange one older blues; the charts were played by two all-star bands in 1959. I'm enjoying it a bunch. Quote

jeffcrom Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 Chico Hamilton and the Players (Blue Note). A pretty good, not great, 1976 album. Arthur Blythe and Rodney Jones are the main soloists. And Steve Turre is a pretty damn good bass player. Quote
jeffcrom Posted February 2, 2011 Report Posted February 2, 2011 After Chico: Chick Corea/Miroslav Vitous/Roy Haynes - Trio Music (ECM). Disc 2 - the Monk stuff. Mighty Sparrow - Calypso Carnival (Id). Nice soca/calypso from a 1968 Trinidadian album. Quote
