jeffcrom Posted December 1, 2010 Report Posted December 1, 2010 Coleman Hawkins - The Jazz Version of No Strings (Moodsville mono). Ignorant me - not only I was totally unaware of this album until coming across a copy today, I was completely unfamiliar with the Richard Rodgers musical No Strings. I've always liked "The Sweetest Sounds" as a jazz vehicle, but I didn't know it came from this show. This green-label, Van Gelder-stamped copy is slightly battered, but it sounds pretty good with a mono cartridge. I'm tickled with this find. Quote

paul secor Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 Until that record, I had no idea that baboons played cards. When I'm flicking through the channels and come across televised poker tournaments, a lot of the competitors look like baboons. Quote

jeffcrom Posted December 3, 2010 Report Posted December 3, 2010 (edited) An old favorite: Ornette Coleman - Crisis (Impulse). Not well recorded, and I've never been a fan of Denardo Coleman's drumming (although I like it at this stage better than later) - but this is a stunning performance.
