rdavenport
Grant Green - His Majesty King Funk (Verve/Sundazed Reissue) That album always reminds me of my dad, who had a copy. As a 7/8 year old, the title always seemed a little strange to me.

jeffcrom
Chick Corea/Miroslav Vitous/Roy Haynes - Trio Music (ECM) I know that some hear don't like the "ECM sound," but jeez - what a great-sounding couple of hunks of vinyl. The improvised pieces on record one are more compelling than the renditions of Monk tunes on the second disc, in my opinion.

kh1958
The copy of Ride Red Ride that I recently acquired has a number of autographs on it. Two are by musicians who appear on the LP--Cozy Cole and Buster Bailey. There are a few more that are recognizable--Gene Ramey, Hal Singer, and Sol Yaged. And three more names that I'm not familiar with: Al Williams, Joly Rae (?), and Freddy Boute (a drummer? Since he drew a drum set underneath his signature). Larry Dale, Pete Brown, Wendell Marshall, & Willie Jones. The last recording he made before he moved to Europe. paul secor
Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis: Jaw's Blues (Enja) Fine, later (1981) live session with very good blowing by Lockjaw and the rhythm section - Horace Parlan, Reggie Johnson, and Alvin Queen. jeffcrom
George Adams, Hannibal & Friends - More Sightings (Enja) The friends include John Scofield and Ron Burton. This is not the record I'd take to a desert island to represent any of these guys, but it's a decent club date.
Chas
Miles' BIG FUN. It is! I always liked that one, warts and all. I have all the "metal spine" box sets, but I kept my vinyl Big Fun, since the originally released version of "Go Ahead John" hasn't appeared anywhere else. Really ? How does the vinyl version differ from the version on the Big Fun CD ?

How does the vinyl version differ from the version on the Big Fun CD ? I misspoke - I should have said that the originally released edit of "Go Ahead John" doesn't appear in the Complete Jack Johnson box. I assume that the CD version of Big Fun uses the same edit. jeffcrom
Spencer Clark and his Bass Sax Play Sweet & Hot (Audiophile) A 1978 album by the guy who replaced Adrian Rollini in the California Ramblers back in the 1920s. It's a pleasant, undemanding record, which is what I needed tonight.
sidewinder
The last recording he made before he moved to Europe. Wasn't it to somewhere crazy like Halifax, West Yorks that he ended up living? Astonishing ! Edited September 21, 2010 by sidewinder
