Bill Dixon - Weight/Counterweight

R.I.P.

Damn - that was news to me. Very sorry to hear it - RIP. sad.gif

Yes, very sad indeed. Sorry to break it to you. Weight/Counterweight is I think his last release and is the music of a fascinatingly enquiring and rigorous musical mind - trumpet and two percussionists. Some interesting appreciation over in the Artists thread.

After my big 78 score on Friday, I've mostly been listening to old music that spins around really fast, but I wanted to hear some somewhat more recent music tonight. It was alto sax night:

Sonny Stitt - I Remember Bird (Catalyst promo)

Marshal Royal - Royal Blue (Concord)

The Great Big Bands, Vol 4: Stan Kenton (Capitol/EMI)

British critic Alun Morgan selects 14 tracks from 1950-56 "to show off the more durable and jazz-inflected side of Stan's output".

Lou Reed - Rock'n Roll Animal - RCA, infamous Dynaflex pressing, never understood why it's so hated, it just sound excellent.

Neil Young - Neil Young Archive Vol 3, Massey Hall 1971.
