The Magnificent Goldberg
Reuben Wilson - Love bug - BN Lib - don't know why I never got this on CD. Must be waiting for a Reuben Wilson Select No kidding! I'd buy that one immediately. Sometimes, you just can't explain why you do or don't do something. This is one of those times. clifford_thornton
Ira Sullivan - Horizons - Atlantic (Red and purple mono) Agreed, except the swing tune in the middle of side two sounds out of place. The rest of the album is great, though. Picked that up for $4 recently on Jeff's recommendation. A fine LP. Now spinning the Xenakis boxed set on Erato. The Magnificent Goldberg
Now spinning the Xenakis boxed set on Erato. Is Erato still in business? Wow! Astonishing for a small indie classical label to be around for fifty odd years. MG
clifford_thornton
Well, this is a 1969 LP set. But yeah, they are apparently still in business.

The Magnificent Goldberg
Disques Erato was purchased by Warner in 1992. Warner is still taking care of the Erato catalogue! Thanks Brownie. I see they don't still have Daniel-Lesur's "Symphonie de danses" in print. Following Kenny Weir's thread on remakes, I listened to Bobby Bland - Tell Mr Bland - MCA - the new version of "Queen for a day" is wonderful; with a blistering trumpet solo by Bobby Bryant. (The LP ain't all that good, though.) Now, in the same vein Etta James - Etta is betta than evvah - Chess (All Platinum) - the new 1976 version of "W_O_M_A_N", now called "Woman (shake your booty)" is an almost complete reconstruction of the original blues into a blazing hot funk groove that just don't stopppppp! (It's a pity the LP has three tracks reissued from her 1974 LP - I'd have liked it to be all new material. Perhaps All Platinum didn't want to pay for more studio time. I think it's the only new Chess album that was made when the Robinsons owned the firm.) MG
