Wolff, are you saying that you bought the Lee Morgan, new, thirty years ago and were keeping it mint, but opened it a year ago??

No. I bought it a year ago and it was still sealed.

Sorry for the confusion. I just couldn't picture anyone here having a mint Lee Morgan, without being tempted to play it. I don't know about you, but I buy vinyl to listen to, not just to have. Am I unusual among vinyl heads??

Right now I'm listening to Jonah Jones' "Jumpin' With Jonah" which will be followed by a collaboration called "Jonah Jones / Glen Gray and the Casaloma Orchestra", both of them very swingin'.

I think that Glen Gray and his orchestra albums are some of the not widely known treasures of the records out there.

Vic Dickenson Septet Vol.4 , 10" Pye- Vanguard material- lovely stuff

Howard Rumsey , Lighthouse all stars Vol 2 In the solo spotlight , 10" Vogue ( Contemporary)- interesting Bill Holman arrangements (largely), similar feel to much of the Kenton Presents Mosaic set.

Don Patterson, Soul Happening (Prestige/Saba, 1967)

with Vinnie Corrao and Billy James.

This deserves a CD reissue - gladly my second attempt to get a used copy on eBay was successful. This includes one of his grand ballad treatments, Love Letters.

You know, it took me a long long time to dig Weather Report's Heavy Weather. I just played it last night, 10 times straight, I think it's starting to get to me. After long hours of 70's fusion, I had to just let my Joe Pass spin for a while. The synths got to me, too much.

A Tapestry Of Dreams - Charles Aznavour [Remember how popular he was during the seventies?? Nothing like his stuff, with dim lights, a nice glass of wine....]

A Tribute To Glenn Miller Vol II - Bobby Krane and his orchestra [it's interesting to me that so many Miller "tribute" albums are out there. Few are bad and many are excellent. In this case, there is no greater compliment to that era than younger musicians carrying on, evolving the Miller band's sound without really changing it.]

Symphonic Soul - Henry Mancini

This is one of my favourite Mancini collections. It has a new version of the Peter Gun theme with an organ solo by Joe Sample that is amazing.

Could someone tell me what an african finger piano is?? I hate to betray my ignorance, but there is a solo on one on the "African Symphony" track and I'm curious.

Also if you happen to have the album, Jack DeJohnette also plays some thumb piano on the Wayne Shorter BN date 'Super Nova'

Thank you Brownie. I felt a little silly asking, but I'm among friends here.
