Teasing the Korean Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 Lalo Schifrin - Voyage of the Damned OST - ATV All over the map, like many soundtracks. A moody, delerious exotic number followed by a "Pomp and Circumstance" knockoff, etc. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted May 8, 2010 Report Posted May 8, 2010 Sonny Stitt - Primitivo soul - Prestige (blue label) - boy, am I GLAD Dan Gould sold me this one!!!! then Arthur Scales - I'm a believer - I Am - I wasn't too impressed the first time I listened to this. Scales seemed a bit too smooth for a gospel sax player. Now I see it's a problem with the drum machines; on the tracks he does without them, he's fine - passionate and fiery. This is from 1989 and I Am was distributed by A&M, so I guess some major influence got in there somehow. MG Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 Sonny Stitt - Primitivo soul - Prestige (blue label) - boy, am I GLAD Dan Gould sold me this one!!!! A year ago or so I came across a cheap used copy in not-so-great shape. I passed it up, only to find it hadn't been reissued (at least not at that time) and that it went for a lot. I ran back to the store and grabbed it. A killer record. Quote

jeffcrom Posted May 9, 2010 Report Posted May 9, 2010 Dave Tarras Plays Again (Colonial) The great klezmer clarinetist only plays on half of the tracks here, even though there is a great, somber cover photo of him holding his Albert system clarinet. Quote
