brownie Posted April 12, 2010 Report Posted April 12, 2010 The Complete Teddy Wilson Piano Solos (CBS France), discs 1, next will be discs 2 and 3 Beautiful box produced by Henri Renaud and Michael Brooks in the early '80s This sounds like something to have! It is. With fine mastering by Frank Abbey! The 3LP set includes the solo piano material Wilson recorded for Brunswick and Columbia from 1934 through 1942. Currently relistening to disc 2 which has superb interpretations of 'Don't Blame Me' and 'Rosetta'! Quote

JohnS Posted April 13, 2010 Report Posted April 13, 2010 (edited) Dexter Gordon; Dexter Blows Hot And Cool. Dootone Presumably this is 70s repackaging of the album. Has an orange label, noisy pressing. Edited April 13, 2010 by JohnS Quote

JohnS Posted April 13, 2010 Report Posted April 13, 2010 Miles Davis/Tadd Dameron Quintet; Paris Festival International De Jazz May 1949. CBS Thanks for the reminder Brownie, this hasn't been out for years. Sounds pretty good too, much better than I remembered. Nicely presented in the gatefold jacket. Quote

jeffcrom Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 Joe Daley Trio At Newport '63 (RCA mono). The one with Hal Russell on drums. Found a stone mint copy at the record store a block from my house. My first impression is positive, but I'll have to give it a few listens to really get a handle on it. Quote
jeffcrom Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 Dave Tarras/Abe Ellstein - Jewish Melodies (Period). Tarras has become my klezmer clarinet hero, but he's actually not that prominent here; this one is a real ensemble effort. Tarras's son-in-law Sam Musiker, who played clarinet and tenor in the Gene Krupa big band, plays tenor here, and I suspect he did the arrangements. Quote

porcy62 Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 (edited) Wayne Shorter - Adam's Apple - BN, Liberty, stereo. Listening to it after a long time. He was such a great writer, it make me rethink at how much Miles' quintet is due to Shorter's tunes. Edited April 14, 2010 by porcy62 Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 I particularly like that one. Living happily with a non-mono edition of it. (Fred Cohen's prices be damned!) Quote
