JohnS Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Freddie Hubbard; Here To Stay; Blue Note-Pathe DMM. Just unsealed this, bought it new 25 years ago, can't believe I've not played it since I disposed of the double, probably around the same time! Quote
Clunky Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Charlie Parker Memorial Concert - Chess - (Italian pressing) 2LP set of decent jam session from 1970. Stars a.o. Dexter, Konitz, John Young, Wilbur Campbell , Kenny Dorham, etc, slightly glassy sound but otherwise very nice Quote

sidewinder Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Freddie Hubbard; Here To Stay; Blue Note-Pathe DMM. Just unsealed this, bought it new 25 years ago Ha ! Does it have the circular Blue Note France poster in it? Great session. I have that on the DMM and twofer too. And just got the 45rpm ! Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Joao Bosco - Tiro de Misericordia - RCA (Brazil, 1977) Similar to Toquinho's 70s stuff. Quote
porcy62 Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 The Latin Jazz Quartet/Eric Dolphy - Caribe - Prestige, japanese pressing. A bit puzzled, it sounds stereo, but I believed it was a mono recording, at least I never saw a stereo New Jazz (or later Prestige) pressing Quote
sidewinder Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 I think the 'Caribe' is in stereo on the Dolphy Prestige CD set. Spinning - Tubby Hayes 'The Orchestra' (Fontana, stereo) Quote
jeffcrom Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Cannonball Adderley - The Black Messiah (Capitol). Some interesting early-70s Cannonball in this double album. I particularly like hearing Alvin Batiste in this context, although he doesn't get a lot of solo space. Guitarist Mike Deasy had no business being on the same bandstand as the rest of these guys, though. Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 The Latin Jazz Quartet/Eric Dolphy - Caribe - Prestige, japanese pressing. A bit puzzled, it sounds stereo, but I believed it was a mono recording, at least I never saw a stereo New Jazz (or later Prestige) pressing As I'm sure you've experienced, a lot of jazz sessions for a couple of years were taped in stereo but originally came out on mono LPs. The stereo versions, for better or worse, began to show up on later LP pressings and/or CDs. Quote
jeffcrom Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 The Chocolate Dandies 1928-1933 (DRG). Unfortunate name; great music. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 The Byrds - Fifth Dimension - Columbia (2-eye, mono). Mono version is MUCH ballsier. On the other hand, there is a LOT of filler on this album. Quote
kh1958 Posted March 20, 2010 Report Posted March 20, 2010 Clifford Brown Memorial Album (Blue Note, Lexington)--Battered Blue Note LPs have been falling my way lately--lots of surface noise but essentially still wonderful sounding. Quote

True, actually it's interesting to listen to these later pressings... and deduce that the monos are better! Quote
kh1958 Posted March 21, 2010 Report Posted March 21, 2010 The Solo Guitar of Bola Sete (Fantasy). A beautiful record, not reissued on CD, I don't think. John Young Trio--Themes and Things (Argo). A really nice record. Milt Jackson at the Museum of Modern Art (Limelight). A truly elaborate gatefold. Harry Sweets Edison and Eddie Lockjaw Davis-- JawBreakers (Riverside stereo, black label) Quote
