jeffcrom Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 I wanted to hear some more George Girard and early Pete Fountain, so: Basin Street Six (10" EmArcy) from 1951. "When It's Sleepytime Down South" is just beautiful. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted January 26, 2010 Report Posted January 26, 2010 Howard McGhee: The Sharp Edge (Black Lion/Trio Japan) Some very nice McGhee and George Tucker on this one. It is a nice record. And thanks to our own Chris Albertson for making it happen. Quote

Happy music ,a strong set, Von not nearly as distinctive as he is now, none the less very attractive musis.willis Jackson is no slouch either. gutrotfrenzy Posted January 28, 2010 Report Posted January 28, 2010 Great to hear! I recorded that first side with my "portable" cassette deck, and the music is excellent, even if the recording is a bit ... "unprofessional". Quote

WorldB3 Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 (edited) np: Dorothy Ashby - The Rubaiyat of Dorothy Ashby. The vocals on this record are hard to get use to but the final track The Moving Finger is so awesome I I still want to keep this and think if I just get in the right head space the rest of this record will fall into place for me. One of those ahead of its time records for sure. wp: Monk - Memorial Album. I just finished the Monk bio, I am beside myself, I felt like I was living with Monk for the last 6 weeks while reading it and playing his music. Edited January 31, 2010 by WorldB3 Quote
jeffcrom Posted January 31, 2010 Report Posted January 31, 2010 Spiritual Starlites - Long Black Limousine (ASL - Atlanta Soul Liberation). Very cool obscure Atlanta gospel, from 1979 or '80, as far as I can tell. Quote
