Teasing the Korean Posted June 16, 2009 Report Posted June 16, 2009 (edited) LALO SCHIFRIN - New Fantasy - Verve, stereo. That one should blow your speakers apart ! Yep! I had to put Ahmad Jamal's At The Blackhawk on after it, in order to calm my wife down. I spoke too soon. 'Grantstand' just caused my NAP 250 to overheat and cut out. The top of the amp was pretty damn hot ! Re: 'New Fantasy' - It must be a 'woman thing' - total hatred of big band music and fortissimo trumpets. Yet to meet one who likes it. That 'New Fantasy' is a great listen though, especially cranked up. Lalo Schifrin is a total GODDESS. I LOVE THIS ALBUM, I have a mono copy. Edited June 16, 2009 by Teasing the Korean Quote

jeffcrom Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 Charlie Mariano - Mirror (Atlantic) This 1971 album could be written off as trendy pop-jazz of the time if you're just reading the back cover, but it's not, except in brief spots, like "Summer of 42." The compositions are interesting and the playing passionate. And Asha Puthli sings on one track! Quote

Chalupa Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 Stockhausen - Hymnen (DGG) What incredible music.... Yes, someday I'll have to track down the later versions of it. Two Albums by Varese... Robert Craft conductor - Ionisation-Density, 21.5-Integrales, Octandre-Hyperprism, Poeme Electronique (Columbia, 6 eyes) A little scratchy but the music still comes through. Boulez - Ameriques, Arcana, Ionisation (Columbia, gray label/orange writing) Quote
