Teasing the Korean Posted May 17, 2009 Report Posted May 17, 2009 Johnny Williams - Rhythm in Motion - Columbia (six-eye mono). Never cared much for John Williams, but he was pretty good when he was Johnny. Quote

jeffcrom Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 Sonny Rollins - The Cutting Edge - live at Montreux, 1974. Saxophone Colossus it ain't, but it's not bad - I'm enjoying it. Quote
michel1969 Posted May 18, 2009 Report Posted May 18, 2009 LITTLE FEAT - Waiting For Columbus - MoFi Porcy, we really have the same musical taste. The Willin' version of this one has an incredible piano solo by Bill Payne. Quote

The Willin' version of this one has an incredible piano solo by Bill Payne. Yes, this is a great album, and the MoFi 'treatment' didn't hurt the sound, actually I think it's a very good mastering, though I didn't hear any other pressing. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 Oscar Brown Jr. - Between Heaven and Hell - Columbia (six-eye mono). Sometimes OBJ sounds like a male Nina Simone. In fact, now that I think about it, sometimes Nina Simone sounds like a male Nina Simone. All these OBJ albums on Columbia have a large percentage of tunes that I've never heard elsewhere. Quote
michel1969 Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 Jackie Mc Lean Capuchin' Swing BLP 4038 DG 47w label. I especially love the Walter Bishop trio rendition of "Don't Blame Me" on this album. A little trio excursus in a quintet session... and after that : Boz Scaggs "Silk Degrees" on ? too lazy to check. Love the cover and the mood of the record. Arranged by Marty Paich son David. Quote

sidewinder Posted May 20, 2009 Report Posted May 20, 2009 (edited) Dave Brubeck 'Countdown - Time In Outer Space' (Columbia 6-eye mono). Beaten up copy free from a colleague at work. Looks as if Olympic skating practice has been held on it but sounds amazingly good. Also 4 more free Brubeck UK Columbias and Fontanas to get through. Edited May 20, 2009 by sidewinder Quote

jeffcrom Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 I had a great evening with 45s: Freddie Roach - You've Got Your Troubles/One Track Mind (Prestige) Erik Kloss - Close Your Eyes/That's the Way it Is (Prestige) Lucky Thompson - Happy Days Are Here Again/Cry Me a River (Prestige) Jimmy McGriff - Hello, Betty/Close Your Eyes (Sue) Sonny Stitt/Jack McDuff - "Nother Fu'ther (Prestige) I love the way Stitt goes out on a very long I/VI/II/V tag, even on a twelve-bar blues. Sonny Stitt - Funny/The Very Thought of You (Met) Sonny Stitt - Little Green Apples/Beale Street Blues (Solid State) Okay, not the most rewarding Stitt.... Sonny Stitt - Private Number/Head or Tails (Enterprise) This is more like it, for soul/funk Stitt. Eddie Chamblee - Strollin' Sax/Stardust (Mercury) Nathan Davis - Slave March/To Ursula With Love (Segue) This one's pretty cool. John Handy - Lay Lady Lay/Spinning Wheel (Columbia) I really like the second side -pretty wild. Erroll Garner - Easy to Love/Lullaby of Birdland (Columbia) Harry James - The Great Lie/Three for the Show (Columbia) Nice Willie Smith alto on this one. Bennie Green - Sermonette/Jim Dog (Vee Jay) Cannonball Adderley - Country Preacher/Hummin' (Capitol) This is a different "Hummin'" than is on the album - Zawinul on acoustic piano. Big fun, three minutes at time. Quote
sidewinder Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 More from my Freebie Dave Brubeck haul: 'Bossa Nova USA' (UK CBS stereo) - Great sound and production by Teo with Bill Smith - 'The Riddle' (Fontana, mono). Again, nice sound 'Newport 1958' (Fontana, mono). A few more crackles and pops on this one but still OK. Quote
