Chalupa Posted April 29, 2009 Report Posted April 29, 2009 (edited) Had a rare afternoon off w/ the house to myself. Got to listen to: Dave Holland/Sam Rivers - Volume 1 and Volume 2. (IAI) It seems that they must have printed 10 x as many copies of vol. 2 than vol. 1. I just never run across copies of volume 1 in Philly. Anyway my luck changed recently. After watching copies go for over $30 bucks the past year on ebay AND having the previous copy that I won turn out to be unplayable due to a massive WARP that the seller neglected to tell me about - I finally found a NM copy in one of the local shops for $10!! Ahh... Willem Breuker Kollektief - s/t (About Time) I really liked this. Which reminds me that I need to pick up some more albums by him. finished up with Gil Evans Orchestra - Plays the Music of Jimi Hendrix (RCA) Good stuff - he's got some "A list" players - Billy Harper, Hannibal Peterson, John Abercrombie - however I can't help but feel that this could have been better. I mean first off Gil only arranged 2 of the 9 songs on the album. Also, while I like all of the compositions that he picked I would have loved to heard what he could have done to "Burning of the Midnight Lamp" or "Manic Depression" - alas.
