Wayne Shorter - Moto Grosso Feio (UAR/Blue Note - blue label)

After listening to "Where Fortune Smiles" the other day I got the itch to hear some more McLaughlin. Generally, I'm not really a fan of jazz guitar but I really like what I've heard of his playing from the 1969-70 time period. BTW, is this available on CD? There are plenty of used copies of this on vinyl but they are always beat to hell.

Check out 'Extrapolation' on Marmalade/Polydor.

Great early McLaughlin album - and a very good one for John Surman too.

A clean BN for a buck - I'd buy it. I'd even buy the Jeremy Steig for a buck.

Yes, the Kenny Cox is nice, and I like both of them the same amount.

Sonny Stitt Quartet: Personal Appearance

Was there ever a bigger a waste of talent in the history of jazz than Sonny Stitt when he was phoning it in?

edit: I owe Mr. Stitt an apology. I listened to side 1 of this record yesterday, and had no inclination to listen to side 2. I did listen to side 2 this morning and Mr. Stitt does get into it on a few cuts there. A lot of this record still sounds like he was going through the motions, but it does contain some some good moments.

Gene Ammons--The Black Cat (Prestige, purple label).

Except for two incongruous with strings cuts in the middle of each side, a fantastic record (with George Freeman on guitar, Harold Mabern, Ron Carter).
