kh1958 Posted January 9, 2009 Report Posted January 9, 2009 Don Patterson with Booker Ervin--Hip Cake Walk (Prestige, blue label, mono)--This sure is a good sounding record, Don Patterson in particular leaps out of the speakers into the room. Quote
blajay Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 I'm seeing ROVA tomorrow night if I can get over this bug! Quote
.:.impossible Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Recently brought home Black California on Savoy, Charles Earland Black Talk!, Paul Motian Tribute on ECM, and the Hampton Hawes/Charlie Haden duets sealed on Artist House. Pretty cool after the fact, looking at the connections between these four albums. I didn't notice any at the time I bought them! Quote
kh1958 Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Stanley Turrentine--Ain't No Way (Blue Note, rainbow series) Quote

sidewinder Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Art Blakey 'Gypsy Folk Tales' (Pye/Roulette stereo) Quote
sidewinder Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Lonnie Smith 'Think !' (BN Manhattan 80s pressing, DMM Ron McMaster transfer). Suprisingly good under the circumstances ! Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 one of the very finest christmas recordings, ever!!!! YES!!! Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Don Sebesky and the Contemporary Arranger's Workshop, Moving Lines (Doctor Jazz) Looking at the cover, it's hard to believe this is the same turtelneck-wearing hipster you see on CTI albums. At a certain point, all white jazz arrangers started looking like guys you would see on the golf course! Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Going through the Syd Barrett catalog this morning. Piper (EMI re-issue from the 80's), Relics (Capitol re-issue from the 80's), Madcap (Harvest), Barrett (Harvest), and Opel (EMI). Have you heard Piper in mono? Incredible. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Nick Drake - FRUIT TREE: THE COMPLETE RECORDED WORKS - Island box set "Bryter Later" in my box set is pressed off center. One reason that CDs are not all that bad. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Lonnie Smith 'Think !' (BN Manhattan 80s pressing, DMM Ron McMaster transfer). Suprisingly good under the circumstances ! This is simply one killer badass album, every bit as groovy as the cover would suggest. Got this in budget bin at 3rd Street Jazz in Philly back in the early 80s when so many BNs were cutouts. "Son of Ice Bag" rocks, blows away Hugh Masakela's original. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Curtis Mayfield - SWEET EXORCIST - Curtom. ANOTHER Badass album, one of my faves from Curtis. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Haven't posted much on this thread lately, spinning mid-century egghead electronic stuff on vinyl (see Classical Discussion forum) Ramsey Lewis, Kenny Burrell Christmas albums up until Xmas Q's take on Jobim's "The Adventurers" Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Stan Getz, Big Band Bossa Nova (Verve) Gary McFarland and Stan Getz. Really like that one! I had a stereo copy with severe separation. Since then I found a mono and I like it much better. Quote
