sidewinder Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 On deck - censored. :rsmile: ? MG Meaning that Bob thinks that, being ESP vinyl, it still sounds like shit... Quote
sidewinder Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 (edited) I expect BFT 60 will be full of vinyl drops of Kenny G, Gerald Albright & Najee Damn - my 'theme' has been blown. The Boney James was a pig to transfer though.. Actually - I did a load of transfers but when I played them back they sounded like sh*t compared with the CD offerings on the BFT. Turned out my soundcard had been set to 9.4 kbps so now I have to redo the lot. Edited November 10, 2008 by sidewinder Quote
clifford_thornton Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 So it all sounds like Hugh Davies live at Ronnie Scott's (which I was listening to last night). Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 Pursuant to Jim's Madison thread - Al Brown & his Tunetoppers - The Madison pts 1 & 2 - Amy (Flashback reissue) The rhythm section on this wins. But the horn section on the Ray Bryant version wins. MG Quote

sidewinder Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 Gil Evans; European Tour 1978 I had a ticked booked for the Bristol Colston Hall concert on that tour. What wasn't expected was the mother of all snowstorms and half of the West Country being cut off and emergency food airlifts. Never did make the concert ! Quote
BillF Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 Gil Evans; European Tour 1978 I had a ticked booked for the Bristol Colston Hall concert on that tour. What wasn't expected was the mother of all snowstorms and half of the West Country being cut off and emergency food airlifts. Never did make the concert ! I did make it! Unusually for me, I have kept - Christiern-like - (stuck to the inner sleeve of the LP Svengali) part of a programme page on which I have written "Manchester Free Trade Hall, Feb 1978" and which continues: Gil Evans - leader Ernie Royal - trumpet Marvin "Hannibal" Peterson - trumpet Lew Soloff - trumpet, flugelhorn Pete Levin - mini-moog, clavinet, french horn John Clark - french horn, guitar Dave Sandborn - alto, soprano, sopranino, lyricon Arthur Blythe - alto, soprano George Adams - tenor, soprano, flute, bass clarinet Bob Stewart - tuba, flugelhorn Masabumi Kikuchi keyboards Herb Bushler - electric bass Sue Evans - drums But whatever happened to Lacy? Quote
sidewinder Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 But whatever happened to Lacy? My guess - in for the Paris concert only as he was resident in France. Damn - I'm jealous, BillF ! You can't believe how disappointed I was not to get to the 1978 concert (I was reliant on a car ride at the time and of course that was canned with the weather). I did get to see Evans at Ronnie Scotts a few years later though with his Brit Orchestra. Indeed, I got to sit pretty close to the Fender Rhodes piano that night. Quote
