Teasing the Korean Posted June 11, 2008 Report Posted June 11, 2008 (edited) Sonny Stitt - The Matadors Meet the Bull - Roulette (mono). An odd one. Why have Joe Cuba, Tito Puente and Ray Barretto on your record and then hardly include any latin content? Edited June 12, 2008 by Teasing the Korean Quote

sidewinder Posted June 12, 2008 Report Posted June 12, 2008 'The Bill LeSage - Ronnie Ross Quartet' (World Record Club, stereo) Often heard them live, but never on record. What date was that? April 1963 date with Spike Heatley and the late Allan Ganley. A very good one too, well recorded. Amazingly, this vinyl is mint, I think it got left in a cupboard for about 40 years. Quote

Sadly, all those guys have now passed on, Ganley quite recently. I remember Le Sage for his cool, forward-combed hair-do and totally impassive stage manner - as well, of course, as his fine vibes and piano playing. Edited June 12, 2008 by BillF Quote

sidewinder Posted June 14, 2008 Report Posted June 14, 2008 Herbie Hancock/Jonathan Klein 'Hear, O Israel' (Jonny Records/Trunk).. Hey, this is good. A lot better than some of the posts on this issue led me to expect. OK, some of the singing is a bit dated perhaps but anyone who likes Herbie's 'Speak Like A Child' will like this I think. Trunk have also done a really fantastic job transferring from one of the (circa 200-ish) LPs possibly produced of this and the sound is excellent. Doesn't look as if the master survived though. Me likes ! Quote
