Tom Waits - Foreign Affairs - Asylum.

edit: Wow! Shelly Manne, Jack Sheldon, Frank Vicari AND Tom Waits! I didn't even suspect such a record could exist.

'The Bill LeSage - Ronnie Ross Quartet' (World Record Club, stereo)

Often heard them live, but never on record. What date was that?

April 1963 date with Spike Heatley and the late Allan Ganley. A very good one too, well recorded. Amazingly, this vinyl is mint, I think it got left in a cupboard for about 40 years.

Sadly, all those guys have now passed on, Ganley quite recently. I remember Le Sage for his cool, forward-combed hair-do and totally impassive stage manner - as well, of course, as his fine vibes and piano playing.

Spike Heatley's still very much active, I think.

Sorry! I didn't check that one!

Herbie Hancock/Jonathan Klein 'Hear, O Israel' (Jonny Records/Trunk).. Hey, this is good. A lot better than some of the posts on this issue led me to expect. OK, some of the singing is a bit dated perhaps but anyone who likes Herbie's 'Speak Like A Child' will like this I think. Trunk have also done a really fantastic job transferring from one of the (circa 200-ish) LPs possibly produced of this and the sound is excellent. Doesn't look as if the master survived though.

Me likes ! :excited:
