This evening

Sonny Phillips - My black flower - Muse promo

Don Patterson - Why not - Muse

Bill Hardman - Politely - Muse

Freddie McCoy - Beans 'n greens - Prestige

Buddy Johnson - Fine brown frame - Decca (MCA)

Ben Webster - Atmosphere for lovers & theives - Polydor (UK)

Jack McDuff - Prelude - Prestige black label stereo

What's with these black labels? This one looks like an original to me. Did they come out between the yellow and blue labels? Or were they early stereo versions of the blue labels?

Hey TTK, have you got this one?

Wynton Kelly - Coming in the back door - Verve stereo

I used to think that the best thing about this LP was that it was only 27 mins 37 secs long. But listening this evening, perhaps I'm feeling a trifle more charitable than that.

Don't think so. I may have passed up trashed copy once. Why do you ask?

Got this, nice one! :tup

I'm a sucker for that eastern-tinged psych-jazz. All of Gabor's Impulse and Skye albums are worth picking up. Also, Chico Hamilton's 60s Impulse albums with Gabor on Guitar.

Agree, I bought all Gabor's records after listening to "Jazz Raga".

Robin Trower - Victims Of The Fury (Chyrsalis 1980)

- Killer record...typicaly horrible quality Chrysalis pressing.

Really?

My Jethro Tull's are fine.

Well we're also talking about 1980's era thin crappy vinyl.

Of course, sad memories, though some of the new wave/post punk stuff wasn't such bad.

Your name occurred to me when side 2 started with a not altogether awful version of "Quiet village"

Clifton Chenier Out West w/Elvin Bishop and Steve Miller (Arhoolie)

Ok, first of all, it's the pianist Steve Miller not The Joker :D and it's very bluesy. I love the saxaphone and the accordian together.

Friends of mine have just returned from New Orleans so it's put me in the mood too.

Freddie Hubbard 'Ready For Freddie' (BN NY USA mono). Stonkin' !

Anthony Braxton 'The Montreux/Berlin Concerts' (Arista 2LP stereo). A reminder that the forthcoming Braxton Mosaic is going to be good.

One of Freddie's best , and the engineering is terrific - my Liberty copy sounds better than the Connoisseur CD !

Some of those Libertys can be pretty good - especially the early ones and the blue/black label !
