BillF Posted May 13, 2008 Report Posted May 13, 2008 The Gerry Mulligan Songbook, Vol 1 (World Pacific Japanese pressing) Sax section of Mulligan, Zoot Sims, Al Cohn, Lee Konitz and Allen Eager with rhythm section of Freddie Greene, Henry Grimes and Dave Bailey in 1957. My idea of a good record! Quote

clifford_thornton Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Roswell Rudd - s/t - (America) w/ Tchicai, Moholo and Finn Von Eyben on bass. Apparently the tour that begot this record was supposed to be the NYAQ, but Graves decided to stay in the States, as did Workman. Quote

porcy62 Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Diggin' into Mobley's Mosaic. Good idea. Sounds like a good plan for later on. Yep, since I bought the VPI rcm, I started to dig (and clean) my existing collection. The big box sets, jazz and classical, are an hard climb, I mean ten records, or more in the case of Beethoven' sonatas of Mozart's symphonies, but I got some new perspectives about the music. BTW the Mobley, though digital remastered according to booklet HERESY!, has one the quitest vinyl of Mosaic, ECM grade, but with much more punch. Overall "Hard Bop" still means something! Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Archie Shepp/Bill Dixon Quartet (Savoy) Bought it "back in the day" and the pressing sucks. I would hope Dixon has the "real" tapes. Great date and very important to me. Quote

BillF Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 George Lewis - Shadowgraph (Black Saint) George Lewis - Homage to Charlie Parker (Black Saint) Can that really be the veteran New Orleans clarinettist dedicating an album to the king of bop? I think there must be another George Lewis I have't heard of. If not, there's probably a record called Bunk Johnson Meets Dizzy Quote
