porcy62 Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 Quincy Jones - This is how I feel about jazz - ABC Paramount, mono. A fine album - which I used to own. It was in terrible condition, having been bought as a cheap used copy, so I replaced it with the CD, which is far from satisfactory, as it pairs these New York big band tracks with West Coast alto and tenor groups under the nominal direction of Quincy Jones. The two make an ill-matched album. Do you mean QJ's GO WEST? I've got both, and I agree: great music. Quote
sidewinder Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 'Bethlehem's Best' (mono 3LP box set - various artists. Chris Connor, Howard McGhee, Conte Candoli, Hal McKusick, Carmen McRae etc) Quote

Yes, looking at the liner notes to my Impulse CD, I read that tracks 7-12 were originally issued as part of Go West, Man. All good music - the This Is How I Feel tracks exemplary - but not suited to being issued as one single CD. Misleading, too, as the cover of of the CD merely reprints the front of the This Is How I Feel LP, which I remember was on Canadian Sackville in my case. Quote
sidewinder Posted May 5, 2008 Report Posted May 5, 2008 (edited) Quincy Jones 'This Is How I Feel About Jazz' (ABC Paramount, mono) Dug this one out too. I'll have to see if I can find the 'Go West, Man' too. Nice sounding album - in pretty good nick. Edited May 5, 2008 by sidewinder Quote

Chalupa Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 Steve Lacy - Trickles (Black Saint) From the Allmusic.com review.... "The music is less melodic than expected but does have its moments of interest." Wow, "moments of interest"??? So basically Yanow is saying it is pretty uninteresting musically but then he gives it 4 out of 5 stars. WTF? Oh and as I was pulling the vinyl out of its paper sleeve I heard a little scratching sound. Arrgh. I was able to finally extract the record w/ out causing further damage. It now has a little half inch hairline scratch on side A. The scratch is just *barely* audible but not enough to ruin the music. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 I think I put a rice paper sleeve in mine - the stock on that one is pretty ridiculous. Great record. Quote
Chalupa Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 (edited) Yeah I got stock up on some rice sleeves. Anyone got a good source for them? Edit: How about these guys? http://www.sleevetown.com/lp-sleeves-inner.shtml http://www.bagsunlimited.com/cart/browse.asp?subcat=11 I used to buy Acoustic Sound's inners (copy of MoFi), since they sold them, though the latest one I got were bad quality (aka too small). Later I went for original MoFi inners, (I am waiting for 500 right now). Overall the Mofi's worth the extra money, in the latest shipping (500) I throw away 3 or 4 because of some flaws. Quote

I use those Japanese Nagaoka ones when I can get them. Cost an arm and a leg but they are good. Don't know what I did to the phono stage last night but it is really singing. Miles is jumping out the speakers. Iffy DIN connection perhaps? Edited May 7, 2008 by sidewinder Quote
