Chalupa Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 Marion Brown - Afternoon of a Georgia Faun (ECM) Wow. Not what I expected based on my previous ECM listening experiences. I like it. Quote
michel1969 Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 (edited) Bud Shank "New Groove" Pacific Jazz PJLP 21 mono original DG. Fine, with "the remarkable" Carmell "the remarkable" Jones. Serge Chaloff "Blue Serge" in Capitol T 742, turquoise original. Fine, but IMO does not deserve the recent hysteria regarding original press. And now : ...[ Don Byas DonByas Don Byas Don Byas Don Byas forever. Gone but Never forgotten. Edited February 5, 2008 by Michel Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted February 5, 2008 Report Posted February 5, 2008 (edited) Orff - Carmina Burana (Stokowski/Houston Symphony) Angel stereo Deceptively crackly pressing despite the clean looking vinyl. Nothing like Capitol pressings from the 1970s. Edited February 5, 2008 by Teasing the Korean Quote

I like it. Overall it's Marion Brown, tough guy even for german producers Well, considering the recordings he was doing around that time for Calig, Freedom and Century, it's bound to be a little wild! Most of the early ECM catalog is pretty interesting and fairly "free," though I've got some good ones on LP well into the 1100s. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted February 6, 2008 Report Posted February 6, 2008 Played my two newies from Bert's yesterday, while my connection was fucked Odell Brown & the Organisers - Ducky - Cadet orig Charles Earland - Charles Earland - Trip reissue of "Freakin' off" on Big Chance. Some also previously issued by Giant Steps. Sound is really crap. I think it would be worth paying for an original. MG Quote
