six string Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 I really like that Barry Altschul album. I just acquired a copy myself last summer at a radio station sponsored record sale. Quote

mikeweil Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 Lots of vinyl today - started this afternoon with two Cal Tjader Verve LPs to transfer them to CDR: Quote
mikeweil Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 (edited) Later, three Don Patterson trio LPs in a row: Soul Happening - German Saba pressing of the Prestige LP - sounds a little flatter than the US pressing of Satisfaction, which jumps right in your face! Right now, the Cadet LP Goin' Down Home, which also sounds terrific! It's a shame none of these ever was on CD! Especially since Don Patterson and Billy James really rock the house!!! Yes, I've got a Saba copy of "Soul happening". I used to have an original of "Satisfaction" and you're right - it leaps off the turntable and eats your slippers. My copy of "Satisfaction", a brand new mono import in the late sixties, was actually broken in the lead in area, so I had to put the stylus on with extreme caution. I eventually got rid of it, because playing it used to make me so nervous, and have a UK Transatlantic copy, which is a bit like the Saba of "Soul happening" (but not quite so tame). MG Quote
