six string
I know nothing about the history of this record. I just bought it yesterday at one of my local used record shops. There are a lot of names on the cover that could be construed as the record company. In the top left corner of the front of the cover it says STACKED. On the upper right corner it says Omegatape ST-2030. On the back cover under the liner notes it says Omega Records Inc. Hollywood California and underneath that in smaller letters it says Mfd. and Dist. by V.S.O.P. Records with a Washington D.C. P.O. Box number. Also on the back in two places it says Omegatape International Pacific Recording Company. On the record label after V.S.O.P. Records is 1985. This looks like it might be the date of the pressing. Also this is labeled Vol.2 and there is a mention in the liner notes of volume one by Jeff Bart from Jazz Times. When you say tape are you talking about reel to reel, eight track, cassette? I could tell it was a strange pressing but I couldn't pass it up based on the band and the record was in great shape and didn't "look" too cheaply made like some labels I avoid with the plague. Chuck Nessa
Reel to reel and rare as hell.
six string
So I shouldn't expect to find volume one anytime soon? I should give Jim a call and see if he does have the other volume in back. You never know about this stuff in "Used Land."
clifford_thornton
On a guess, I'm going to say the VSOP is a vinyl reissue of the Omegatape reel-to-reel. VSOP also reissued the J.R. Monterose LP In Action, which was originally on Studio 4 (a bitch to find that one, too).
The Magnificent Goldberg
VSOP also released Plas Johnson's "Bop me daddy" from Tampa. Interesting reissue firm... MG

six string
VSOP also released Plas Johnson's "Bop me daddy" from Tampa. Interesting reissue firm... MG Last night I found an add for other releases inside the album cover, including volume one of this recording. There were quite a few from the Mode and Tampa record label. Back on track, this morning I listened to Soul Mates - Ben Webster/Joe Zawinul (Riverside) OJC. What a sweet record.
