clifford_thornton
Yeah, it is. Right now: William Hooker - Is Eternal Life - (Reality Unit Concepts) wiiiild set w/ David Murray, David Ware, Mark Miller, Hasaan Dawkins and Les Goodson. The solo shit is from some proto-Cooper-Moore (&Milford) shaman bag, hackle-raising to be sure.
Teasing the Korean
Wait, are we splitting hairs on an $8 LP??? People would actually pay eight dollars for a record?
Teasing the Korean
Liebermann - Concerto for Jazz Band and Symphony Orchestra - Reiner/Chicago Symphony & the Sauter/Finegan Orchestra - RCA Red Seal. A 12 tone work that gets off to a good start but doesn't quite live up to its promise. Still, it has some nice moments and integrates jazz and symphonic music better than some third stream works. Big Al
Dom Um Ramao HOTMOSPHERE. Kinda cheesy, but pretty cool nonetheless. Earlier: Donato A BAD DONATO. Boy, did THAT one live up to its title. Worse than the Byrds reunion album I also bought for a quarter.

The best Third Stream work I've heard is that cool Larry Austin piece ("Improvisation for Orchestra and Jazz Soloists") with Barre Phillips, Don Ellis and Joe Cocuzzo from a Bernstein-conducted Columbia LP of New Music. Austin was in the New Music Ensemble, an obscure and way-out California contemporary of the Gruppo Nuova Consananza. They made one insanely-rare custom LP that I would pay at least $8 for. Teasing the Korean
The Byrds - Turn Turn Turn - Columbia mono Sounds TERRIFIC in MONO!!!!!!!!! Now if only they had ditched: "Satisfied Mind" "The Times They Are A-Changin'" and "Oh Susannah" and replaced them with: "She Don't Care About Time" "The Day Walk (Never Before)" and "It's All Over Now Baby Blue" IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A PERFECT ALBUM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I almost agree with you; I'd keep "The Times They Are A-Changin'." But otherwise, you are RIGHT on the money on this one! (I'd even throw in "Stranger in a Strange Land," but whattyagonnado?) Big Al
But I'm listening to side four of the Dexter Gordon 2-LP Blue Note reissue simply titled DEXTER GORDON. It's "Tanya," BTW. Wonderful, wonderful tune. Reminds me that I need to scoop up all those Dexter RVGs!

I love Dylan, but many of the Byrds' Dylan covers sound warmed over to my ears. The Byrds were never better than when they were doing Gene Clark's tunes, although Younger than Yesterday is a really solid record.
