Teasing the Korean Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 On Sunday mornings, it's usually Brazil or fake Brazil. Today's is "Blame it on the Bossa Nova" - Eydie Gorme, Columbia mono. The title track is pure crap (conveniently placed at the end of a side) but the other 11 tracks are pretty solid. Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted September 30, 2007 Report Posted September 30, 2007 Maynard Ferguson - MF Horn Once I was a jazz geek and only listened to "real jazz." If you'd have told me back then that one day I'd have a Maynard Ferguson album in the house and would totally dig it, I'd have said you were nuts. "Chala Nata" RULES!!!! Quote

kh1958 Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 Chico Hamilton--El Exigente (The Demanding One) (Flying Dutchman) Do the notes say whether the title track is by Harold Ousley? MG No liner notes on this Bob Thiele produced live recording--it doesn't even say where it was recorded, only copyright 1970. Band is Arnie Lawrence on electric sax, Steve Swallow on bass and Bob Mann on guitar. To respond to your question, there is no tune called El Exigente on the album, making the title a bit puzzling. On first listen, the songs are appealing, Hamilton and the rhythm section sound very good, but Arnie Lawrence plays the most strident electric sax I've heard. I'm hoping he sounds better on second listen (or I'm more receptive), because the first time around he mostly ruined the recording. Quote

clifford_thornton Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 Wait, are we splitting hairs on an $8 LP??? Quote
six string Posted October 1, 2007 Report Posted October 1, 2007 But it's a good $8.00 lp! I'm not at home now to check on my catalog number, but Blackhawk was a SF Bay area label for a while, so they may have reissued it at one time. OK, I'm done. Quote
