paul secor Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 Miles Davis at Plugged Nickel, Chicago (CBS Sony - Japan) I find that I listen to this mostly for Miles and Tony Williams. I know that the others are there, but Wayne Shorter's and Herbie Hancock's playing has always seemed emotionally distant to me. It's no doubt a personal quirk - I know many others love their playing - but I just don't feel much of a connection to their music. Quote
six string Posted September 7, 2007 Report Posted September 7, 2007 I picked up a pile of records yesterday, so last night I listened to Enchance by Billy Hart (fantastic) and then this morning over coffee it was Groovin' w/Idrees Sulieman, Horace Parlan, Mads Vinding, and once again, Billy Hart on Steeple Chase. Followed by Woody Shaw's Master of the Art on Elektra/Musician and Major Changes w/ Frank Morgan and the McCoy Tyner Trio. Quote

The very first track is "Some Of These Days" and it always lifts my spirits. That and rest of the album is reminiscent of David Rose's "The Stripper." Love it!! I vaguely remember the name Walter Gates. Didn't he have a big pop hit in the early sixties? Or am I thinking of someone else? Can you remind me some more, Patricia?
