What's the music like? NP: Willow Weep for Me - Wes Montgomery - Verve stereo You get a picture of Elizabeth Taylor dressed as Cleopatra, on the cover. The full group is Paul Horn (flute and bass flute), Emil Richards (vibes), Victor Feldman (piano), Chuck Israels (bass), Colin Bailey (drums), and Larry Bunker (percussion). All of the music is composed by Alex North for the film Cleopatra, and the themse are quite beautiful. The music is very moody and atmospheric, for the most part, but there are also uptempo/swinging cuts and interludes (Victor Feldman is smoking on his solos). One of the better jazz groups plays movie themes recordings I've heard. I really enjoyed it. There are no notes; it does say copyright 1963. Quote

Big Al Posted September 6, 2007 Report Posted September 6, 2007 Duke Ellington - New Orleans Suite It has been far too long since I've listened to that one (being as I don't have it, for one thing). I can't remember the name of it, but that third track of side one, with that repeated trombone line while Gonsalves solos...... OW!!!! Anyway, I've been listening to Bill Evans & George Russell's LIVING TIME. MAN, is that one tough piece! Good, but exhausting! Quote

Do you know how close I came to buying that when I saw it that night? Ah well, at least I know it's in good hands! Anyway, I was wrong: it's the fourth track, "Thanks for the Beautiful Land on the Delta," that makes me wanna get up and join the procession! Next year, I'm setting aside a whole DAY to rummage around in there! Edited September 6, 2007 by Big Al Quote
