sidewinder Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 (edited) Chico Hamilton 'El Chico' (Speakers Corner stereo) This is, quite simply, a KILLER record! I LOVE Chico's stuff from this period. Yep. It's been in endless rotation. I love the sound quality that Speakers Corner have been able to achieve - a very 'uniform' balance with lots of 'air' (damn, I'm starting to sound like a wine critic ). Surely better than the original maybe? Edited August 3, 2007 by sidewinder Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 Surely better than the original maybe? Not sure. I've got a mono original and never heard the stereo mix, either on an original or reissue. I can say my mono LP jumps out of the speakers. Quote
Shannon Dickey Posted August 3, 2007 Report Posted August 3, 2007 Anthony Ortega "Permutations" Revelation. Fantastic! The Batman kills on this!! Note to Clifford Thornton: Clifford, I may have a duplicate copy of this, however it is slightly warped. It plays fine, a few crackles. PM me if interested. For you, it would be cheap!! (under $10.00, if I can find the mother.) -----HB Quote

patricia Posted August 4, 2007 Report Posted August 4, 2007 (edited) The Unpredictable Jimmy Smith - Verve label - mono. This has my favourite version of Walk On The Wild Side on it, backed by a great Big Band. I love Elmer Bernstein's [which is the one which was on the Laurence Harvey/Barbara Stanwick film of the same name], but this is pleasurable. Side 1's tracks are all backed by the big band. Side 2's are with his trio, Jimmy Warren on guitar and Don Bailey on drums. Nice album. Edited August 4, 2007 by patricia Quote
