The Magnificent Goldberg Posted June 23, 2007 Report Posted June 23, 2007 Don Patterson - Satisfaction - Prestige Transatlantic UK issue Don Patterson - Soul happening - Prestige Saba Germany issue These two would make an excellent twofer. Apart from the LP he made under Paul Weeden's name, these are the only oran, guitar, drums albums Don Made (I think). MG Quote
clifford_thornton Posted June 23, 2007 Report Posted June 23, 2007 Free Jazz Workshop (de Lyon) Caught them live at a festival over here a few years ago. Interesting, not quite my thing. I've only heard smatterings of their stuff, and this InterFrequences date is the only LP of theirs I have (actually from before they added the "de Lyon" to the name). It's a great mix of Afro-Jazz and rackety clanging. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted June 23, 2007 Report Posted June 23, 2007 Two more candidates for a CD twofer Lou Donaldson - Coleslaw - Cadet (GRT repress) Lou Donaldson - Blowing in the wind - Cadet (plain blue label - original?) MG Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted June 23, 2007 Report Posted June 23, 2007 Old and medium-old school Two great LPs with sleevenotes by the incredible Dzondria LaIsaac Bobby Bland - Two stes from the blues - Duke - MCA reissue The Gospelaires - Camp meetin' - Peacock - ABC reissue And the master James Brown - I got the feelin' - Polydor reissue MG Quote

It's a great mix of Afro-Jazz and rackety clanging. The performance I saw was a tribute to Edith Piaf with Piaf's voice backing on an old gramophone. Definitely interesting - but a bit of a curate's egg ! Quote

ep1str0phy Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 Jimmy Woods - Awakening! - (Contemporary black-label stereo) Recently got this one... sweet! Love that one, though the second date gets my blood running a little faster. For me: Craig Harris: Tributes (OTC) -I've heard nothing about this date, but it boasts a killer Don Moye/Billy Higgins drum line. Harris is always a pleasure--especially in this slightly more "advanced", combustible context--and the rest of the ensemble, Olu Dara and Dave Holland included, is fine. Quote
Parkertown Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 Hey Natural Soul, Are those Baby Face Lps the inexpensive ones that are around these days? Available online for around $8-10? How's the sound on those? I've been curious... Quote
Parkertown Posted July 2, 2007 Report Posted July 2, 2007 Now spinnin': Roy Ayers - Virgo Vibes - Atlantic - Stereo - Made in Germany. A first-time listen to my first Roy Ayers Lp. Joe Henderson' presence made me get off the fence on this one. Not bad... Quote
