GA Russell Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 TTK, is that Astrud Now album any good? I have seen a reference or two to it on the internet, but I don't recall ever seeing it in the stores. Quote
sidewinder Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 Quincy Jones 'The Quintessence' (Impulse UK 70s reissue) Oliver Nelson 'Live In Los Angeles' (Impulse red/black) What is this one like, Bob? Nearly bought it on Ebay recently and I changed my mind. 'The Quintessence' is a great album, Yves. Great soloists of the calibre of Freddie Hubard and Phil Woods. I'm disappointed with the UK black label reissue pressing though (one I've had for years), sound level is low. Worth going for an original. The Oliver Nelson is very nice too and sounds superb in the red/black pressing. Quote

I have seen a reference or two to it on the internet, but I don't recall ever seeing it in the stores. Yes. It's a bit more Brazilian than some of her later Verve albums, which were generally more pop. Deodato does arrangements and Airto plays percussion. Some songs are in Portuguese, some English. Parts of it have that introspective, early 70s sunlight-filtered-through-the-trees vibe. Quote

GA Russell Posted March 19, 2007 Report Posted March 19, 2007 TTK, is that Astrud Now album any good? Yes. I'll have to look for it sometime. I have almost all of her albums, and it's been a while since I opened one up. Quote
