Jack Jones - Dear Heart (Kapp, stereo)

Arrangements by Don Costa, Jack Elliott, or Harry Betts.

I remember very well this one being heavily promoted in the record stores.  I wonder if it was his best-selling album.

That is really an excellent album and the playback quality is top. Love it.

No idea.  Like the others I spun yesterday, it is a mixed bag, but it is one of the better ones also.  The version of "Something's Gotta Give" on here is good.

This one is excellent. Hot stuff.

:tup :)

Just wish I had an original Mercury pressing.  The AQ of my Trip reissue vinyl is pretty darn scruffy.

This record, on the other hand, sounds AMAZING -- both AQ-wise (and more importantly) musically:

Me too now but streaming not LP. Just looked at the band, absolutely ridiculous line-up.

And what a version of 'Troubled Waters'

Yes!  I love how Quincy elevates/brings out the GOSPEL elements that are inherent in that song.

And Valerie Simpson's singing!!!  So beautiful.

Weird that they title this compilation "Farmer's Market" and yet only include 2 of the 6 tracks from that LP.

Yeah, I thought that was strange too.

The early days of the 24000 series sometimes saw compilation LPs. The had not yet settled on the full-album reissue concept.

I have Farmer's Market as a New Jazz LP, very nice one.

I heard Farmer´s Market the tune almost each time Farmer was in town, he lived here but most time was touring, but at least 2 times per year he played some nights at Jazzland, and so often "Farmer´s Market" was the first tune of a set.

😁 it's touch or go, this or the studio recording by the same band I think. 5 DeJohnette leader dates down to 3 is the aim but may not be achieved

Change of tack now, welcoming a new arrival

As mentioned Hampton Hawes had a good ear for strong bassplayers .... btw Eberhard Weber rarely sounded better ....

Funny that you mention Weber.   Earlier, I was listening to Pat Metheny's Watercolors, and Weber is the bassist on that album.  Weber's playing caught my ear -- particularly on the gorgeous final track, "Sea Song" -- and that's what prompted me to grab this Hampton Hawes LP.  I also pulled Weber's Yellow Fields from the shelf.  I'm planning to spin that LP next.

I guess it's an Eberhard Weber sort of day.

Makes this day definitely a better one, I suppose ....
