Pim Posted June 21 Report Posted June 21 Prince Lasha with Bobby Hutcherson, Buster Williams and Charles Moffett. Sound of this (bootleg) reissue really sucks. Anyone knows how the original sound? Quote
mjazzg Posted June 21 Report Posted June 21 I have an original and never noticed it's poor but it's been a while since I listened to it. Quote

Anyone knows how the original sound? @Pim listening to this now. The only issues I hear with the sound are due to it being a live recording - the drums and more so the bass is not so audible at times when the horns are in focus. Horns and vibes are crystal clear and foregrounded. Bass solo on side 1 is definitely quiet in comparison but still pretty comfortably audible and has clarity. Main issues I'd say are with balance between front line and rhythm section in ensemble parts. Thank you for prompting this listen, it's a marvellous album. I have the other two as well so will have to listen to them! Quote

Main problem with the bootleg version is that the horns sound terrible and heavily distorted so glad to hear that’s not the issue with the original. I’ll add one to my wantlist then. Will be able to buy one without a cover as the cover replica is well done. Quote
